As a Director of Photography for film and video, John Foster has shot seventeen feature films. He has been nominated for two Independent Spirit Awards, and the films he has shot have won many awards, including the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival and the duPont-Columbia Journalism Award.

Aside from his work as a cinematographer, John also received filmmaking grants from the American Film Institute and the New York Foundation for the Arts.

Recently John has returned to his roots in still photography, specializing in children, portraits, family gatherings, and events.
